ReCycles Bike Club

Join the ASN Action Bike Team! Because we promote a more sustainable community, we promote the recycling of used, abandoned and discarded bikes and get them back out on the roads again. We also promote the riding of bikes as an environmentally friendly transportation option and promote bike safety.

Our mission is to provide a welcoming space in which cyclists of all sorts can learn about building, maintaining and riding bikes, and to create a community among bike riders.

OLD UPDATES BELOW...

This Sunday, Nov 4 ... we will be opening shop at 3pm due to daylight savings. Because it'll be getting darker earlier, we will probably change the offical opening time to 3pm for the rest of the season.

ReCycles is under renovation due to our recent upgrade in space, so we'll need help in organizing the shop and most importantly; breaking down all the old bikes and organizing the parts into bins.

sunday is my birthday, so please come out and have fun with us!

ReCycles Update 10.16.07…

With the success of the Natural State Expo, ReCycles is anticipating a lot of new energy and bike donations. We are working to clean up our shop, minimize junk bikes and make room for more quality donations. We are building quite an impressive garbage pile, though, and are looking for creative ways to reuse our trash including old tires and tubes, bent rims and frames and rusty crusty chains.

Special thanks to Bicycle Advocacy for Central Arkansas (BACA, www.bacar.org). Their board approved to spend $200 in the form of tools for the ReCycles program.

We need more quality bikes for resale! For info on how to donate, please contact the ASN Action Headquarters at 501.372.6996 or email us at lrcoop@yahoo.com.

Although we will continue to update ASN members with the regular activities of the co-op, we will have a separate listserve for those who want more regular and detailed updates. Shoot an email to lrcoop@yahoo.com to be a part of our listserve.

ReCycles Update 8.27.07

Fix 'em up, y'all!

We are gaining a lot of new energy, but have limited space, tools and time. Therefore, we need to step it up a notch and help our organization grow.

We compiled a list of needs which includes stands (to buy or build), a truing stand, and more bike specific tools including bike wrenches.
We also compiled a list of stuff we need to get some bikes built. This list includes tubes, tires, and spools of brake cables, shifter cables, and housing. And, of course, we are always looking for volunteers and crusty rusty bikes.

For info on how to donate, please contact the ASN Action Headquarters at 501.372.6996.

Future Fundraisers: Contact us if you have any ideas or want to help organize a...

1.      Bike In Movie. Lets show a bike movie in the ASN lot. Does anyone have any bike movies or know of a good movie we can show?
2.      Bike Maintenance Series. We will hold a 3 or 4 part series for a
charge.

ReCycles teams with Chainwheel and Big Brothers Big Sisters! We are donating working kids bikes to Chainwheel's annual BBBS Christmas giveaway. Come closer to Christmas, we will be putting together a team of folks to help repair donated bikes for the BBBS program. Let us know if you'd like to be involved!

Tori led a bike workshop through ACAC last saturday at the ASN
Center and it was a huge success! There were a lot of people interested in learning more about what we are doing. We are in the process of refining a logo and putting together an informative flyer. Let us know if you want to help spread the word!

Thanks again to everyone who comes out, hangs out, and helps out. Its our combined energy which makes it a true community operation.

* Meeting Times: Sundays 5pm - whenever. Want to be involved but can't make it out on Sunday? We are considering opening shop on a weeknight. Let us know what day is good for you!
